Trouble loading .gpi files to ZUMO 550

Can someone that is adept at TOURGUIDE FILES please explain how to make them work?! And which is best? .gpx? or .gpi? The Official Garmin site says to use POI LOADER and .gpx which I've tried with no luck. And GEO Tourguide is all about the .gpi file.

I've sucessfully created an audio tourguide file using GPI GENERATOR. And I've followed the steps on the website to save on my computer and then transfered to the device AND to SD card, and it doesn't show up on my unit. If someone could please hold my hand and give me a CLEAR STEP BY STEP process of what needs to be done I'd really appreciate it.

I have a route on which I have WAYPOINTS. Some of those WAYPOINTS I'd like to trigger TOURGUIDE audioFILES. Can someone PLEASE explain how to do this?

Thank you very much...

Peter

WHen you say it doesn't show

WHen you say it doesn't show up on your unit, which unit do you have? Assuming it's a nuvi or similar version did you try to simulate a route to that waypoint or you just couldn't see it all? These devices are so tricky that messing up one small thing can cause it not work. BTW, I believe GPI has many more advantages over GPX. Don't use POI Loader, it is almost impossible to take off the POIs afterwards.

I have the ZUMO 550. HAve

I have the ZUMO 550. HAve had nothing but headaches trying to work out how to install - I get so many conflicting sources on the net- do this, do that. Doesn't help me. Basically I need STEP by STEP instructions, that Garmin or any other site fails to offer. Do I create a ROUTE first? Do I just open MAPSOURCE and make WAYPOINTS and then save the file as a .gpx in the POI folder? DO the .mp3 and .gpx or .gpi file need t have the exact same name?

I've tried simulating a route but no luck there either. In fact the coordiantes I entered which are very near my house showed up in the GPS as being 40+ kilometers away. Very strange.

Thanks for your help...

Peter

I've also got a zumo so I'll

I've also got a zumo so I'll document the steps today and put it up this evening. Seems to work pretty well for me.

Did you watch the videocast?

There is a video cast for creating and installing these things on this website on the front page. I recommend you watch the videocast and see if it helps you with your questions.
